There are many aspects of Jung’s philosophy.

How they connect and interplay can become quite confusing. So I’ve made a visual guide to help. Below is a downloadable asset (see end of letter), for you to keep and reference – it comes in handy

“Our psyche is set up in accord with the structure of the universe, and what happens in the macrocosm likewise happens in the infinitesimal and most subjective reaches of the psyche”

– Carl Jung

Consciousness vs Unconsciousness

Consciousness = what you’re aware of.

Unconsciousness = what you’re not aware of.

These are the 2 main divisions of the psyche. The Ego and the Persona fall into our awareness, while the Shadow, Anima/Animus and the Self fall into unawareness.

Personal Unconscious vs Collective Unconscious

The unconscious is further dividing into the personal and collective.

The personal is everything in our psyche that is unique to us, which we do not hold consciously in our mind.

  • Memories

  • Complexes

  • Personal experiences

The collective is all of the things we are not conscious of, that we inherited, either through genetics, or shared cultural beliefs.

  • Drives

  • Beliefs

  • Instincts

I.e. the archetypes.

What are the Archetypes?
